Composers Statement:
While this piece was begun just before COVID-19 hit Australia, its themes have only grown more eerily relevant. While COMPUTER VIRUS celebrates the kitsch aesthetics of early websites, it is a piece about the alienation that the internet and computers bring into our lives. I am grateful to have grown up in the online age - it has given me friendships, knowledge and expanded my point of view. However, it has also increased my social anxiety and led me to experience censorship in my art and writing that I was too naive to be wary of. COMPUTER VIRUS captures in a dream-like montage emotions and memories from my online life.
